About Katherine
Katherine Amodeo is a Registered Social Worker and designated Psychotherapist with over ten years of experience in health and mental health. She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Social Work from Toronto Metropolitan University, and is a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and an active member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).
Katherine is also a retired Funeral Director with over 20 years of licensed membership with the Bereavement Authority of Ontario — a professional background that brings extraordinary depth and lived understanding to her grief and bereavement work. Her practice is explicitly anti-oppressive and LGBTQIA+ positive, providing a safe space for clients from all backgrounds and identities who are seeking support with navigating difficult adjustments and life-altering change.
Katherine's aim is to create a path to recovery — a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental environment where each client's lived experience, culture, and personal goals are honoured and where genuine enhancement of wellbeing is achievable.
Katherine Amodeo — Newmarket Therapy CentreClinical Approach
Katherine works from a collaborative, trauma-informed, and attachment-based perspective — addressing anxiety, depression, workplace and relationship challenges, motor vehicle accidents, and the diverse adjustments that arise from life-altering change. She draws primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) within an integrative framework that also incorporates Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Grief and Bereavement approaches, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT).
Katherine has accumulated extensive experience across a wide range of client populations — from children to seniors — including individuals navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, communication challenges, relational transitions, and the psychological dimensions of acquired brain injury and mental health diagnoses. Her strength-based approach ensures that each client's culture, lived experience, and identified goals shape every aspect of the therapeutic work.
