About Elena
Elena Tikhostoup is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and student intern at Newmarket Therapy Centre's Leslie Street location, working with adults, couples, teens, and adolescents in both English and Russian. She brings together a unique foundation in Behavioural Psychology (BA Hons, Seneca Polytechnic) and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (Yorkville University) — offering a thoughtful blend of practical guidance and emotional depth.
Elena's approach is deeply person-centred, helping clients gently explore and make sense of their experiences while also building meaningful, everyday skills that support real-life change. She understands that each person's story is unique, and takes time to truly listen and meet clients where they are — with empathy, cultural humility, and unconditional positive regard.
"People are not defined by what they have been through, but by the choices they make moving forward. While life experiences — including trauma and loss — can have a deep impact, they do not have to determine your future."
Elena Tikhostoup — Newmarket Therapy Centre, Leslie StreetClinical Approach
Elena uses an integrative, flexible approach tailored to each individual. Drawing from evidence-based therapies including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), she supports clients in understanding their emotions, developing practical coping skills, reconnecting with their values, and recognising their existing strengths.
At its core, Elena's work is grounded in a strong Person-Centred approach, in which the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a safe, supportive foundation for growth — empowering clients to gain greater clarity, confidence, and a deeper sense of connection with themselves, moving toward a more balanced, meaningful, and authentic life.
