About Helen
Helen Scott is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Before transitioning into clinical practice in 2021, Helen spent more than 20 years leading national and global public health initiatives — including mental health policy, trauma-informed care systems, and maternal and child health programs.
As the founding CEO of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health (CanWaCH) and a senior advisor at the World Health Organization, Helen developed deep expertise in emotional health promotion, caregiver stress, and trauma-sensitive care at a systemic level. She now brings that breadth of understanding directly into her clinical work with individuals and couples — integrating a systemic, policy-informed perspective with evidence-based therapeutic practice in a way that is genuinely unusual in private psychotherapy.
Helen works with adults, couples, and teens (16+), with a particular affinity for caregivers, health professionals, and individuals navigating significant life changes.
Helen's work is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and deep respect for each client's lived experience — creating a safe, collaborative, non-judgmental space where healing feels genuinely possible.
Helen Scott — Newmarket Therapy Centre EastClinical Approach
Helen's approach is integrative and client-centred. She draws on a range of evidence-based methods and tailors them to the individual, not the other way around. Her work engages the cognitive, emotional, and physical dimensions of experience, recognising that meaningful, lasting change happens when all three are addressed.
Her therapeutic orientation blends Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness with somatic and nervous-system-informed practices. She also incorporates a coaching-informed approach, supporting clients in setting clear goals, building practical strategies, and translating insight into meaningful, sustained change in their daily lives.
Helen works with clients to understand patterns across thoughts, emotions, and body responses, while developing the skills needed for greater resilience, clarity, and stability over time.
Helen's clients are often high-functioning professionals, executives, and educators who are managing complex demands and want a space that combines reflection with practical forward movement.
Nutritional Counselling
In addition to psychotherapy, Helen provides nutritional counselling — exploring the connection between diet, mood, inflammation, and overall mental wellbeing. This can be integrated as a standalone service or as a complement to the psychotherapy work.
